Fountain Ink is known for its longform, hard-hitting and unbiased journalism. Their print magazine is not only informative to read, but also well-designed. Our designers studied their design standards and principles and enhanced it for the digital medium.
We adapted their primary brand colour and used supportive colours throughout the website.
Because we were redesigning for a magazine with multiple categories, subjects and pages, we started with designing wireframes for each page. Doing this provided us room for experimentation, collaboration and conversation with the client.
Fountain Ink’s previous website was built on WordPress and the client wanted a different option this time. Instead of suggesting a different CMS platform, we instead recommended building our own CMS from scratch. And the client agreed. It was obvious to us that the development process will take a little longer than if we had used a theme, but we also knew that by building a custom CMS, we will be able to take control of the design as well the features and functionalities we decide to include in the website as well as allow future upgrades.
